Perry was born on July 25, 1968 in Chicago in Illinois. She was the daughter of Laurie Metcalf Perry and Jeff Perry. Her first TV roles included two roles in the role of Jackie Harris (as seen in flashback) in The ABC sitcom Roseanne, the character portrayed by her mother. Her parents, however, did not let her perform until she turned an adult because of the effects stress would have on their daughter. Perry confessed that she wasn't comfortable acting in high school. She began doing it to connect with new people in Northwestern University after switching from Boston University. Perry started her acting career as an actress in New York after graduation, getting small role in Law & Order: Criminal Intent. Then, homesickness led to Perry come back to California and pursue a career as a stage actress. Perry starred with her mother as part of The Other Place at Broadway, back in 2013. Her father Kevin McKidd performed in Eugene O'Neill's Pulitzer prize-winning film Anna Christie together with her in 2015. Perry appeared in 9 episodes on ABC's drama The Family during 2016. In 2017, she was a part-time character in ABC's thriller about politics Scandal which starred her father. The same year, she played a young model of Mary Cooper on Young Sheldon (a CBS spinoff The Big Bang Theory) in which she played her mother in a youthful version. Despite having a family connection to the character she received the part through an audition.
